No temporary Crowns, No Messy Impressions, and One Easy Appointment. Combining Dr. Tyler's certification in dental laboratory technology (CDT), and prosthodontics advanced education and training, with CEREC advanced digital technology, your new crown was fabricated efficiently and exceptionally in a single visit. Here's what to expect next:
Immediate and Short-Term Care (First 24-48 Hours)
- Wait to Eat: Do not chew, especially on the side of the new crown, until the local anesthesia/numbness has completely worn off to avoid biting your check or tongue.
- Dietary Restrictions: Avoid sticky, chewy, or extremely hard foods (e.g., gum, taffy, ice, nuts) for the first 24 hours.
- Managing Discomfort: Soreness in the gums is normal: use warm salt water rinses (1 tsp salt in 8 oz water) to reduce irritation. Over-the-counter medication like ibuprofen (600 mg every 6 hours) or acetaminophen is recommended for discomfort.
- Initial Sensitivity: Expect some sensitivity to cold or heat in the first few days or even sometimes weeks. If sensitivity is lingering after a few days, don't hesitate to contact our office.
Long-Term Care and Hygiene
- Oral Hygiene: Brush and floss normally, as the crown is permanently cemented.
- Avoid Damaging Habits: Refrain from chewing on ice, biting fingernails, or using teeth as tools.
- Follow-Up: If the bite feels "high" or uncomfortable, or cold/hot sensitivity stays persistent or becomes more severe contact our office for a follow-up and possible adjustment.
When to Contact Us:
- If the bite feels uneven or "high" after 24 hours.
- If you experience persistent, increasing pain, or severe sensitivity.
- If you have any additional questions or concerns. (772) 286-1606.
